SUBMISSION GUIDELINESThe art of storytelling is not dead. Despite a world of fast-paced information at our fingertips everywhere, there is nothing quite a like a good story told masterfully. And really that is the primary requirement for submissions to Great Big Magazine. We want stories, whether fiction or nonfiction, that are crafted in a compelling way, with rich characters and timeless themes. But that doesn't mean your work has to fit into a specific framework stylistically (or in terms of word counts). Being adventurous is part of the process of storytelling. And if prose is not your medium of choice, please still keep that same sentiment in mind for poetry and photo essays. We're also looking for some humor pieces, if that's your thing. No matter what type of work you are submitting, any subject matter will be considered, but we ask that you send only your best work. We are currently accepting works for our first issue from both new and published authors and artists, but no previously published works will be considered. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to provide payment to authors, a fact we hope will change once we get off the ground. While Great Big Magazine acquires first rights for publication, rights revert to the author or artist upon publication. We reserve the right to reprint the work in the event of a print-based anthology at a later date. For photo essays, the artists retain all rights to the work. Please send your writing submissions, preferably as Microsoft Word documents, to submissions@greatbigmagazine.com. For photos, links are preferred to attachments. We look forward to receiving your work. |
